The Fair Credit Reporting Act is designed to protect consumers from inaccurate, incomplete or misleading information in their credit reports. The law requires that all three major consumer reporting agencies provide a free copy of your file upon request and prohibits them from charging you for the service. If there are errors on your report, they must be corrected by the CRAs within 30 days after receiving notice of any dispute. You can also ask each CRA to review your file at no charge if you believe it contains inaccuracies.
